Hakuro: One of the 24 Seasons of the Luna Calendar

One of the 24 seasons in the lunar calendar, Hakuro is starting on the 7th. It is the season with cooler evenings and beautiful views of the moon.

Since ancient times, Japanese people have admired the moon’s constantly changing shape and enjoyed moon viewing. In the Nara and Heian eras, parties were held with little boats on a pond while people were enjoying poetry-reading and court music and dance. A reflection of the beautiful moon must have been seen in the cups in people’s hands.

Japanese sake presents rich flavor that can be enjoyed in each of the ever-shifting seasons. Moon-viewing sake with a seasonal side dish for the fall. Then snow-viewing sake for the winter and flower-viewing for the spring: sake offers a unique way to enjoy with each season.
