Respect-for-the-Aged Day

September 21 is Respect-for-the-Aged Day. Unlike Mother’s Day and Father’s Day, very few countries celebrate a day to respect elderly people.

This holiday originated more than seventy years ago when the town of Taka-cho of Kitaharima, Hyogo Prefecture suggested an Old People’s Day as a municipal holiday, which was later accepted nationwide as a national statutory holiday.

Why not sending a gift of special Japanese sake to express your continuing gratitude to the people who you have emotional ties with? Sharing the time to sip rich beverage will make the most fantastic gift.
