Sakabayashi :Sugidama

Sakabayashi :Sugidama (Japanese cedar twigs)

We displayed a Sugidama (cedar twigs) at an entrance of our brewery on 11th of November.

Sake breweries used to hung a large ball made of cedar twigs : Sugidama :Sakabayashi as a sign that a new sake has been brewed.

The twigs are green when it is hung up, but gradually turn brown.

This color change tells you the maturation of sake, and so the sugidama come to be used symbolically.
